Missiles fired. Missiles intercepted. Ceasefire announced, but not by Iran or Israel. “A weakened regime fires performatively”, western news reports. Anti-American and anti-Israeli protests continue in the streets of Tehran. Public pledges of forceful responses made by state-sponsored groups untied to the usual conventions of warfare. A declaration of war may never be debated in Congress if not allowed to be debated… a procedural thing. The majority of Supremes allows detainees to continue to be deported to places they are not from - many dangerous, tenuous places – while the merits, such as they are, make their way through lower courts. Not the last word. Real consequences. Extreme heat sends temps into triple digits.
No action taken, no decision made is without consequences. There are the immediate, and the ones that boomerang and echo to the timeplaces of descendants’ descendants. There are sadly very few examples of governments resetting toward interdependence which is waaaaay aways from diplomatic de-escalation which is waaaaay aways from calculated escalation and accompanying messaging wars. We do not yet have cellular possibilities. May we at least see the futility of anything else. In the meantime, not rising to the bait usefully interrupts. Seeing people for who they are rather than who they represent, and acting accordingly, reverses course, if ever so slightly. And take measures! Do not depend on procedures to see us through. Literally, do not overheat.
