More strikes back and forth. It cannot be definitively said who retaliated against who retaliated. And so on. Whatever this is, it is not a symbolic rattling to appease the masses. Oil prices spike. EPA orders Midwest staff to stop enforcing fossil fuel violations. (No connection. Just proximate in time as spaces collapse.) Heat advisory in parts of Alaska – whoa! A first! Six dead and two missing as West Virginia floods. Severe weather continues and Bonnaroo does not. A virus expert resigns, no longer confident in expertise used expertly.

Proximate in time. We are all in the same space. There is no escape. A cartoon The New Yorker Magazine has a father coaxing daughter out from under the bed, explaining that hiding is understandable, “but we do it by watching TV, not by crouching under the bed.” Alas, neither helps.  Everything everywhere anytime impacts all of us. Not understanding that, not accepting that, keeps us in harm’s way, supports complicity, extinguishes agency, minimizes possibility, reinforces the so on and so on of action-reaction-strike-strike back.
